Frustrated - at myself!

Ever do something that causes you more of a headache than it's worth? Well, you would think as a Network admin, I would be more "Careful" about testing software on my MAIN computer (that being my laptop that I LIVE off of). Well, stupid me, I was testing something and it corrupted the MBR on my hard drive. For those of you that are not techie, MBR is the Master Boot Record - it's what loads up to tell your computer to launch Windows. All my files were fine, I just could not get back into Windows to use the system.
I tried everything, from Windows booting into the Windows Xp recovery console to Linux live CD's with Hard Drive repair tools. After 5 hours last night, and another 2 hours this morning, I find a nice little, free tool online that fixed it in about 10 seconds. ARGGHHH!!!! And, what it did was something I should have known to try. It's amazing how, when we are faced with a problem, panic mode kicks in and we most often overlook the simple solution. I guess we think the problem is worse than it is, and that that means a more complex solution is required.
When fixing any problem in life, we should always remember the old saying K.I.S.S. (Keep It Simple, STUPID!). After all, it's much more fun to Rock and Roll all night as opposed to bing stuck in front of a malfunctioning PC, scratching your head and butt at the same time because your so frustrated you can't tell them apart! :-)
A Star has taken his place in the heavens

While it was not being "Beamed up" as he did for Kirk on so many occasions, James "Scotty" Doohan has left the world behind. In fitting tribute, his ashed have been launched into space. Here's the article on it form SciFi.com....
"The cremated remains of original Star Trek star James Doohan
(Montgomery "Scotty" Scott) were finally blasted into space on
a commercial rocket on April 28, the Associated Press reported. Wende
Doohan was one of the relatives who fired a rocket carrying a small
amount of her husband's ashes, along with those of other people,
including Apollo astronaut Gordon Cooper, at 8:56 a.m. local time from a
New Mexico launch site. The suborbital flight plummeted back to Earth,
coming down at the White Sands Missile Range.
Doohan died in July
2005 at age 85.
The remains of Star Trek creator Gene
Roddenberry were sent into space in 1997."
FLASH! - He'll save every one of us!

Why has NO ONE told me that the Sci Fi channel is doing a Flash Gordon TV series??? Linky Goodness!
Now, I only hope that it will not be as campy as the 1980 Movie. The lead role (Flash Gordon) will be played by Eric Johnson. Those of you that follow Smallville will remember him as "Whitney" from the first few seasons.
Do you have a horse in the race??

I know it's early, but it's time to really stat looking at the candidates for 2008. Have you guys given anyone any serious consideration yet?
I like Mitt Romney's POLITICAL views. My big drawback on him is the whole Mormonism thing. However, looking at his past work in politics, he's never pushed any Mormon agenda's. At least that I can find.
I like Rudy. Part of that has to do with his work in cleaning up New York (Prior to 9/11) and his handling of the post 9/11 issues in NY. While his PERSONAL view on abortion is pro-choice, he DOES believe that from a POLITICAL stand, it should be left up to the States to decide. That's how the system is supposed to work. So, I can respect that. He's entitled to his own opinion, and he's not one to push HIS opinion on the entire country.
McCain - I've never been fond of him. I don't know, there is just something about him that give me the creeps. I do have to say I admire his support for the troops and in doing the RIGHT thing by staying on the offensive in the war on terror.
I've heard Duncan Hunter on Rusty Humphries a couple of times and I like what he has to say. I think he would be the strongest on Illegal Immigration. Odd that I like a Republican from KALI-FOR-NI-A, one of the most Liberal states in the union.
As for the rest of the crowd, I have to plead ignorance on them. Is there one of them you really like? Let me know why. You might be able to swing my support that way.
As for now, I have to say my bumper sticker is just reading "Anyone but a Democrat in 2008"
Or this...
Hitlery?

For all of those that compare Bush and Conservatives to Hitler and
Natzi's- you need to study your history Conservatives are not Natzi’s.
Conservatives are for Free trade, individual rights with individual
responsibilites.
LIBERALS are for a Nanny state where verything you
do is for the greater good. Natzi’s were Socialists and that is exactly
where Hillary and Obama and Dean, and Pelosi, and Ted Kennedy all want
to take this country. They want to distroy the Individual in the name of
the greater good. I’m just waiting for them to use the term “Motherland.”
Watch it, if they take the White House in 2008, you’ll see things like:
a)
Taxing “My Space” pages and personal websites in the name of funding
crack downs on catching internet child-preditors. After all, it’s for
the greater good of all.
b) A Nanny State health care where you pay out of your pocket for EVERYONE’s health care, but you loose the right to choose your own doctor, or even your own health care options. A system where doctors and promoted because some Union said they eserve to be promoted, not based on their skills.
c) A excesive consumption tax for people that drink more then their allocated amount of alcohol.
Here’s the biggest thing that seperates Socialists (like the Natzi’s and Democrats) from True Conservatives. Conserviatives (Libertarians, Republicans…) believe that you are an INDIVIDUAL, not stuck in some group or social class. YOU have the same rights/responsiibilties/opportunities as anyone else with no need to “regulate” or “Redistribute” those rights in the name of “Equal Oportunity” laws.
Instead, Democrats, like the Natzi’s just want to lump you into social groups and redistribute the wealth from those that ahve EARNED it to those they feel deserve it.
Attitudes - They're not just Black & White
Posted on Thursday, May 24, 2007 at 8:55 AM by Robby Roberts
Too many times we hear that there are 2 points of view, Optimist or Pessimist. I tell you that is not the case. I am neither. For the most part, I am a REALIST. (See this post)
In fact, many people believe there are 7 attitudes and Optimist or
Pessimist are none of them...
-Cynic: Cynics view the world in
terms of what isn't, or of what won't work.
-Idealist:
Idealists view the world in terms of how it could be changed for the
better.
-Pragmatist: Pragmatists see the world in terms of
what works best or most efficiently.
-Realist: Realists view
the world in terms of what is; they focus on a situation's objective
facts.
-Skeptic: Skeptics view the world with doubt.
-Spiritualist:
Spiritualists view the world in terms of its possibilities.
-Stoic:
Stoics view the world with serenity, feeling that outer events aren't of
primary importance.
Now, are you limited to being only one of those? No. I believe we are all 7 of those attitudes and our choice depends on the situation. Now, we all have one or more of these we tend to use the most. Just as I'm typically a Realist. However, Realism and Pragmatism go hand in hand in many cases.
What I run into, and what sets me off is when people see my realistic
view as being NEGATIVE or PESSIMISTIC. They think that, just because you
don't see the glass as half full, you are a pessimist. I look at a half
a glass of fluid and see just that, a half a glass of fluid. That's
being a realist. I also tend to be a Pragmatist in that I see that the
choice of glass was not the most efficiently, and a smaller glass would
have been a better choice to hold that quantity of fluid. I see that the
person dispensing the fluid picked a better choice of container, there
would be no issue on half full or half empty.
When I take that attitude, I get feedback that I'm being negative about the situation. There is nothing NEGATIVE about stating FACTS. Reality is not always posistive, and neither are the facts. But, they are rarely always negative. I just wish more people would understand that before they label people as having only a positive or negative attitude.
Can I be a Cynic at times, I can be a Spiritualist at times. There is more to the world than just the Yen and the Yang, the black and the white.
Some people see the world as this:
When in reality, it's more like this:
